“An interactive map, which allows you to look up police records of nearby crimes, has gone live today.
The Home Office crime mapping website has been largely expanded since it was first launched last year.
The website allows you to type in your location and find out police records of burglary, robbery, violence, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour.
The 'new and improved' map means searches are more specific and will allow people to work out where particular crimes have taken place, giving much more detail and information.
Let us know what you think of the 'crime mapping' website, which can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/7qdpez5 Devon, UK#crimetypes/2011-12
Ministers hope it will help to drive up police standards. Do you think it will?
Do you think it's a good thing we can now see the exact crimes and locations of crimes committed in our local area?”
“Not sure it will drive up police standards, more likely to drive down house prices. Imagine typing in a post code for a house you were thinking of buying and seeing lots of crime in that post code, would make you think twice!!!
Its one of those websites that every one goes onto today, it crashes and then no one ever goes back on there.”
“At least it will show where all the criminals hang out. A bet those that are convicted go on and look up there own crimes. Money that could be better spent elsewhere if you ask me.”
