An additional fire engine from Bude provided the extra man power along with the incident command unit from Ilfracombe.

A second fire appliance from Bude was also called to the scene, making it five pumps.

The blaze involved two external sheds and spread to a neighbouring two-storey house.

One man was suffering from smoke inhalation and had to be treated at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus sets, three hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the large blaze.

By 9:30pm crews had made steady progress and the fire was contained.

By 10.40pm crews were dampening down.

The fire service said the cause of the fire was unknown.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the fire was unexplained at this stage and said the force is working with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause.
