We fund the developers

AT the last Torridge District Council Plans Committee, when an application for a wind turbine was being considered, a councillor said that he had sympathy with the objections but that it was pointless to refuse the application because the decision would be overturned on appeal.

It seems that the council has surrendered the principle that every application is considered on its merits and has decided that it cannot afford to refuse turbine applications from developers because of their substantial financial resources which always allows them to appeal.

In effect, developers have been given a carte blanche to go ahead and build as many wind farms as they like. That news will quickly spread and we must expect our district will be defaced by more and more of these machines with their intrusive noise and flicker with health risks, their devaluation of nearby property, and injuries they cause to insects, birds and bats.

How is it that developers have so much money? It comes from subsidies granted by the Government. That money, which the Government so generously hands out, comes from us, the taxpayers. In essence, therefore, developers are using our money to browbeat our local government. It is hugely ironic that it is our money that funds developers to do things we object to.
