Two good Ilfracombe delight manager with their attitude
TWO corners, two headers and a 2-0 win for Ilfracombe Town at Longwell Green Sports in the Toolstation Western League.
Tom Rossiter and Steve Holland nodded the goals to reward a strong display from the Bluebirds in Bristol.
Manager Barry Yeo said: "We dominated from the first minute and we could have won by a lot more.
"I was delighted with the attitude of the players."
By extending Longwell's winless run to seven games, Combe moved above their opponents into 11th in the premier division.
Despite squandering several chances they never looked in trouble after Rossiter headed home just before half time.
It was no surprise to see Ilfracombe strike at a set piece but the scorer of the second goal raised a few eyebrows.
Holland, hardly renowned for his aerial power, claimed his first goal of the season after James Mayne flicked on a cross from Ross Middleton.
"It was nice for Steve Holland to get on the scoresheet," said Yeo.
"It was about this time last year he went on a crazy run of scoring so hopefully he can start again."
Holland was a lively threat on the right wing, carving out several chances for team-mates as the visitors started with a 4-3-3 formation.
Rossiter impressed as the central striker with Jon Vooght on the left. Shaun Lewis and Mike Hedden both dropped to the bench after last week's goalless draw with Corsham Town.
Aside from one save early in the second half, goalkeeper Steve Oliver was hardly troubled and the defence comfortably held out for their third clean sheet in four games.
Yeo was encouraged by Shaun Copp who enjoyed a 30-minute run-out as he continues his comeback from a broken ankle.
"He got a whack and he got up and got on with it," said the manager. "He's a brave lad.
"He wants to play every minute of every game, which is great but I have got a responsibility to look after him.
"With players coming back, we have got an extremely good squad.
"We have got players fighting for places now."
