More heavy rain as Met Office issues weather warning for North Devon

A heavy rain weather warning has been issued for North Devon for Thursday.

The Met Office has issued the yellow-graded warning, the lowest of its kind, for North Devon and South Wales from 3pm on Thursday until midnight.

Forecasters are warning of heavy showers which could lead to localised flooding in areas where the ground is already heavily-saturated.

A chief forecaster at the Met Office said: “An active frontal system will move southeastwards across the area during the second half of Thursday bringing generally 15-20mm of rain, but perhaps as much as 40mm over parts of west Wales.

“The worst of the rain should clear away on Thursday evening.

“With the ground still being saturated following last week's heavy rain and some river levels still high, the public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding.”

The weather warning comes just a day after the Exeter-based forecasters issued a warning of ice for the region. That warning came after forecasters predicted a drop to sub-zero temperatures for much of the county over the next few days.

The cold spell is forecast until Friday, with Saturday expected to be warmer with dry and sunny spells.
