Croyde's boys are dominant

THE UNDER-13 boys from the Academy of Beach Sports in Croyde dominated the South West Volleyball Association Junior Grand Prix.

Hayden Lawson, Matt Bull and Sam Dunbavin beat Academy rivals Finn Begley, Torrin Begley and Joe Wright in the final at Burnham-on-Sea.

Along the way they had beaten off competition from Melksham, Wessex and a third Academy team.

Forty-four teams took part in the competition, with nine from the Academy.

In the under-15 girls, Immy Dawes and Holly Paddon lost by one point against a strong team from King Alfred's School, Highbridge.

Head coach Denise Austin was extremely proud of all the players, some of whom had only been playing for just over a month.

An SWVA Satellite event will be held at North Devon College, Barnstaple, on Saturday.

Great Britain beach volleyball player Lucy Boulton will hold a coaching session at 9.30am, with the competition following from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

The event is open to local youngsters who must first register. Entry forms and information are available by e-mailing denise@ beachvolleyballinc.com or calling 07773 382305.
