Torridge's new system for applying for social housing
The Devon Home Choice Register will be the new way of letting council and housing association homes — replacing the former Torridge Housing Register.
The Devon Home Choice system will be advertised from December 16, but the district council would like to see members of the public, who are seeking a council or housing association home register before tomorrow.
Once Devon Home Choice is running those who are registered will be able to choose between homes advertised and bid for up to three homes each week.
The successful bidder will be someone eligible, has the highest housing need and has been waiting the longest.
Councillor David Lausen, lead member for housing at Torridge District Council believes the new way of working is more transparent and will help applicants when applying for affordable vacant homes.
He said: "People should be aware this new scheme will not significantly increase the supply of affordable homes, as unfortunately there is still more demand than supply."
The registration process can be started at www.devonhomechoice.com. Anyone unable to apply online can visit the housing team at Torridge District Council, Town Hall, Bideford, EX39 2HS or telephone 01237 428849.
