Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 11:30

TOP comedians Rich Hall and Paddy McGuinness are among the stars coming to North Devon this autumn.

North Devon Theatres has unveiled its new season of shows at the Queen's Theatre in Barnstaple and the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe.

The classical season includes the Philharmonia Orchestra, returning after a sell-out concert two years ago, as well as pianist Mitra Tham, the Badke String Quartet and Fiona Slominska and Jeremy Young.

Charlie Landsborough returns with his blend of easy-listening ballads, blues and country music mixed with his wit and repartee.

Songwriter Ralph McTell arrives later in the season to take the audience through his varied body of work.

Folk music comes from Tim van Eyken, followed by local singers Amy Newton and Jenna.

Jazz performers include Gilad Atzmon's Orient House Ensemble, Gwilym Simcock with his trio, and the Stekpanna/Vintskevitch Quintet.

Rhythm and Blues is on offer with The Manfreds and their guests Alan Price and Maggie Bell.

More nostalgic music follows with That'll Be The Day, a rock 'n' roll show with hits from the 50s right through to the 80s.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra returns with more swing classics, and the annual Festival of Remembrance features an evening of military, highland and choral music from local groups in aid of The Army Benevolent Fund and The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Swansea City Opera perform The Elixir of Love — a comedy about a peasant who uses an elixir to win the heart of a young, wealthy woman.

Theatrical performances include Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, Rogue Theatre's Pathway to the Red Sun, My Brilliant Divorce starring Dillie Keane and the classic farce Run For Your Wife starring Melvyn Hayes.

Comedy offering include Paddy McGuinness, Pam Ayres, Michael McIntyre, Rich Hall, and comedy especially for children with Ian Billings.

There's more comic entertainment from 4 Poofs and a Piano, who have become a household name thanks to their regular appearance on BBC1's Friday Night With Jonathon Ross.

Musicals include Me & My Girl, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, The Wonderful West End and a musical version of Romeo and Juliet.

Ballet is back with the Balletboyz and Welsh Independent Ballet.

The season ends with the annual pantomime. This year it's Jack and the Beanstalk starring Todd Carty, of EastEnders, The Bill and Grange Hill fame.
