A below average horror comedy

JENNIFER'S Body is about a small town high school student Jennifer (Megan Fox) who is possessed by a malevolent and evil demon.

She transitions from being "high school evil" to gorgeous, aloof and ultra-attitudinal to thoroughly evil and despicable.

The glittering beauty becomes a pale and sickly creature, desperate for a meaty snack, and guys who never stood a chance with the heartless hottie take on a new interest in light of Jennifer's insatiable appetite for male flesh.

Meanwhile, Jennifer's lifelong best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried), long relegated to living in Jennifer's shadow must step up a gear in order to protect the town's young men, including her geeky boyfriend, Chip.

It all starts when Jennifer takes Needy to see a rock band from the city. Low Shoulder have a gig at a local bar in the girls' rural hometown of Devil's Kettle.

The sinister rockers sacrifice Jennifer to the devil to ensure their success in the music business. But what they don't know is that the ritual did not go quite to plan: they were supposed to sacrifice a virgin and Jennifer is so obviously not a virgin.

As a result, a demon possesses Jennifer and she starts hungrily feeding on the young men in her school.

This is the slender premise of a below par effort by all concerned and it is no real surprise that American audiences shunned the movie.

When it was released in September, it barely grossed enough at the box office to cover its production budget.

The movie was written and produced by Diablo Cody of Juno fame, specifically as a vehicle for Megan Fox who told me: "I love this story. I am this girl. I know how to do this. I can kill this role."

Alas she does much more than that — she murders the part as her acting skills are absolutely zero.

She is more famous for her highly vocal pronouncements about working with Transformers director, Michael Bay and for being voted Sexiest Woman In The World (or whatever award they were dishing out at the time) than she is for her acting skills.

Jennifer's Body is a very below average horror comedy that will have limited appeal to audiences brought up on a diet of much more superior horror parody fare such as Scream.

The film is frankly neither funny nor scary.

It fails miserably on both counts and the most irritating aspect of Jennifer's Body is Cody's writing style: the supposedly hip dialogue that both Fox and Seyfried interminably utter throughout the movie left me baffled and I did not have a clue what they were actually talking about.

Undoubtedly teenage boys I am sure will flock to see Jennifer's Body only for the famed lesbian clinch between Ms Fox and Ms Seyfried.

"Hell is a teenage girl" says the narrator at the start of the movie but I disagree — it is having to watch Ms Fox try to act!
