Two guitar greats at the Landmark
TWO of the world's most exciting and accomplished guitarists perform together in North Devon.
Grammy award-winning classical guitarist John Williams and jazz guitar legend John Etheridge join forces at the Landmark, for what promises to be a rare musical treat.
Williams and Etheridge will play duets and perform solo, in a programme showcasing the guitar as a musical instrument that works across the genres.
John Williams is seen as a foremost ambassador of the classical guitar and has toured for some 40 years.
Highlights of his career have included recording music for films, with perhaps his best known piece being Cavatina from The Deerhunter.
He has collaborated with Andre Previn, Cleo Laine, and John Dankworth among other big name stars, as well as being the leader of the crossover group Sky.
John Etheridge has a glowing reputation throughout the jazz world, as a prodigiously gifted player and composer.
He has toured and recorded with the iconic Stephane Grappelli and legendary jazz-fusion group The Soft Machine, and worked with a wide range of artists including Nigel Kennedy, Dizzy Gillespie and Billy Cobham.
The two Johns first worked together in 2001 producing an album of interpretations of African music, The Magic Box.
They began touring together in 2006, when John Williams rightly described the pairing of classical and jazz guitars as a true first.
This Landmark performance promises to bridge the two styles while still allowing the musicians to demonstrate their individual skills.
