No thanks to Hallowe'en

Thursday, October 30, 2008, 07:00

IT'S Hallowe'en tomorrow and across North Devon children will be dressing up to "trick or treat" friends and neighbours.

This year the police have teamed up with the North Devon Journal to ensure no tricks are played on vulnerable residents.

The campaign Sorry, No Trick, No Treat, No Thanks encourages people who do not want to be bothered by trick-or-treaters to display a poster in the front door or window of their homes.

Sergeant Dave Elliott, from the Barnstaple Crime Reduction Team, said: "Hallowe'en is a fun time for lots of people. But some people, especially if elderly or vulnerable, get anxious if they hear people knocking on their door during the evening.

"We're not here to ruin people's fun but we would urge trick-or-treaters to be aware that some people do not want to be disturbed. We would ask people not to call at houses displaying this poster."

The poster is published on page 20.
