A devoted boyfriend has completed seven marathons in seven days to raise money for charity after his girlfriend was paralysed in an accident.

Neilson “Nelly” Webber, 23, ran a staggering 183.4 miles from Carly Taylor’s home in Cornwall to her bedside at a spinal unit in Wiltshire.

Carly, a talented sportswoman from Newquay, broke her neck in November after falling 15ft off a bridge into the River Allen in Truro.

She was paralysed from the shoulders down and is now on the long road to recovery at a specialist unit in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Since the incident, Nelly, a sports lecturer, has worked tirelessly as he tries to raise £50,000 for Spinal Research UK and £50,000 to support Carly on her long road to recovery.

He set himself the task of running seven marathons in seven days – despite having never covered the 26.2-mile distance of a single marathon before.

Nelly set off on February 11 from Newquay before finishing at the specialist spinal unit in Salisbury where Carly is based.

On the fifth day he was joined by five friends including PE teacher Robin Trott from Wellington, Somerset.

Robin, 24, said: “Nelly’s love and determination for Carly is nothing short of heroic.

“Despite being a monumental challenge, it did not phase Nelly – he is an inspiration to us all.”

Nelly completed the amazing feat on Friday evening – running into the car park of the Salisbury hospital where he was met by his proud girlfriend who ventured outside for the first time since the accident.

He said: “I was really apprehensive and I just wanted to get on the road and start chewing up some miles to be that little bit closer to Carly.

“The feeling of coming round that corner and seeing Carly was better than I could ever have imagined and well worth seven days of hard graft.

“However, what I would like to stress is that this challenge of mine is over but Carly’s still continues.

“Carly will continue to work hard and get to where she and everyone wants her to be, which will be walking. And in time she will be successful, I have no doubt about it.

“In the meantime we will keep working and raising money to make this as easy for Carly as possible.”

Nelly’s campaign has raised £11,823 so far. For more information, see www.carlytaylorfightingback.co.uk.
