New form to help report hate crimes

Friday, November 06, 2009, 07:00

SAFER North Devon, working with the police and Devon County Council, is introducing a new form for people to report hate crimes.

These are described as incidents which are motivated by believing someone is different.

The victim does not have to complete the document — it can be a third party who is made aware of the incident.

Hate forms are available from libraries, police stations and council offices.

Devon County Council's hate crime prevention officer will record the information to help agencies such as the police and councils monitor what is happening.

They hope to ultimately reduce hate incidents in North Devon.

For more information visit either www.safernorthdevon.co.uk, the victim support line on 0845 6761020 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
