Poor surf didn't stop an estate agency holding its annual challenge event at Woolacombe.

Alder King held its ninth annual Surf Challenge at Woolacombe Beach at the weekend.

More than 40 people in the commercial property industry from across the UK attended the event, which was sponsored by trade magazine Property Week, Foot Anstey, Hollister, Signboard, John Smale & Co and Loose Fit.

The poor surfing conditions meant a kayak relay race replaced the normal surf competition.

After a closely fought race, the "Pink Team" triumphed, with winners Shirley Feeney from Lambert Smith Hampton; Charlotte Brannigan from Foot Anstey; David Weight from Davis Langdon; Richard Marshall from Beachcroft and Nicholas Burt from Foot Anstey defeating the competition to win the race.

The annual volleyball tournament went ahead, with a mixed team from Foot Anstey, Davis Langdon, Beachcroft and Lambert Smith Hampton winning the contest.

The challenge raised £100 for the Woolacombe branch of the RNLI, which provided a lifeguard for the event.

Dominic Rosenbaum, surveyor from Alder King's Exeter office said: "The flat surf on Saturday meant that we couldn't hold a surf contest and instead we had to think on our feet and get the kayaks out.

"The weather was fantastic and everyone had a great day, and I would like to thank our sponsors and the RNLI for their continued support.

"This event remains unique in the property calendar and allows us to show our clients and contacts what the South West has to offer."
