A TALENTED young quartet visit Barnstaple tomorrow. The Solstice String Quartet, who formed while studying at Cambridge University, are Jamie Campbell (first violin), Daniel Roberts (second violin), Meghan Cassidy (viola) and Gregor Riddell (cello). The four are said to play with complete precision, maintaining a perfect balance between all four instruments.
They have performed throughout the UK and internationally, at major music festivals and venues, and have played live on BBC Radio 3. Members of the quartet can also be seen performing with a selection of classical musicians in the recently released film An Education starring Peter Sarsgaard, Alfred Molina and Rosamund Pike.
This year, the quartet were awarded the first prize ensemble award at the Royal Overseas League Competition, and in 2008 were selected by both the Tillett Trust and Park Lane Group for professional support, seeing them make their debuts at the prestigious classical venues Wigmore Hall and Purcell Rooms.
The Queen's Theatre concert sees the quartet present a programme of Haydn's Quartet Op.76 No.5, Dvorak's Quartet in F Op.96 America, and Beethoven's Quartet Op.127.
