Texan band turn up the heat at the Plough Arts Centre

Hot Club of Cowtown Plough Arts Centre, Torrington Thursday August 6

THE Hot Club of Cowtown will be turning up the heat at the Plough Arts Centre next week. On tour from Austin, Texas this dazzling band of talented young musicians and singers bring with them a devil-may-care style that combines the rigour of jazz with down-home sentiment of country and the earthiness of the blues.

The band (Elana James on violin and vocals, Whit Smith on guitar and vocals, and Jake Erwin on bass and vocals), swings hard as it continues to develop its unique, ever-evolving sound. This journey, which began with the roots of the Hot Jazz era, Americana music, vintage pop and folk music, continues to unfold into the new sound of the group's original songs.

While touring the UK the band have appeared on BBC Radio with Bob Harris and Andy Kershaw, and on BBC TV's Later with Jools Holland, as well as at UK festivals, theatres and clubs. Back in the States, tours with Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, the Mavericks and others keep the Hot Club of Cowtown busy, dazzling new audiences.

"We don't think you'll be able to keep those feet still, so this event will be cabaret style with space for dancing," said marketing officer, Julie Cook. "With the launch of their latest album Wishful Thinking (on sale on the night) and bookings already coming in from all over the UK, this show will be something not to be missed."

£9 full/£8 concessions/£7 supporters. A Tex Mex Meal Deal is available for £7 from the Café Theatre: 01805 625925. Box office: 01805 624624.
