WINKLEIGH Fair (Sunday July 12 to Saturday July 18) promises plenty of family fun this week. It officially starts on Sunday (July 12) with the crowning of the Fair King and Queen and a balloon race in the village square. A church service is followed by cream teas served by Winkleigh WI in the Community Centre. On the Sports Field you can enjoy an inter-pub cricket match, a barbecue and a bouncy castle.

Fun events throughout the week culminate with fair day on Saturday July 18. This includes a Farmers' Market and Rural Skills event in South Street from 10am and a vintage car rally in the Square from 10am.

Afternoon events start at 1.30pm with a children's fancy dress parade and competition – this year's theme is Devon Life. Mrs Recycle will run two workshops for primary school children at 10am and 2pm.

Families can enjoy a battle of the bands competition, fair ground attractions and, for younger ones, a bucking bronco and bungee slide with a bouncy castle. During the afternoon Embarrassing Dad will entertain and ReptoBug will give you the chance to meet and learn about insects and reptiles. Village races, the village triathalon and a grand draw will take place towards the end of the afternoon. A barbecue is available all day and there is live music with folk musician Karolina Gergolova (from 6.30pm) and The Thorvertones (from 8pm).
