Robert Marchant-Greenslade
Age: 15
Lives: Northam
Surfs: Westward Ho! and anywhere I can get a lift to.
How long have you been surfing? Nine or 10 years.
What got you involved with surfing? My dad was having too much fun on his own.
Who rips in North Devon? Jake Bowrey, and all the guys at the Ho! Seriously.
Who's the best up and coming surfer in the area? Me!
What's your most memorable session and why? Last trip to La Santa, and getting in the tube at Morro Negro.
What is the best thing about surfing for you? Having fun, and lots of speed.
What would you say to people wanting to get involved with the sport? Go for it, don't hesitate, and be prepared to become obsessed.
Where else have you surfed in the world? Lots of Lanzarote, Sri Lanka, East Coast USA, and France – does Cornwall count?
How does North Devon compare to other global surf spots? Cold brown water, long periods of no surf, and cheap, but can hold it's own on its day – I love it, who doesn't?
What's the worst thing about surfing? Cold brown water, long periods of no surf, and being obsessed.
Your opinion on hired equipment? Justin at the North Devon Surf School has told me to say 'it's the way forward'. It has also helped with my commission. The more boards the more money.
Have you had any nasty injuries surfing? I've had part of my ear glued back on, and a couple of bouts of concussion.
Best wave you've surfed? La Santa left, amongst many others.
Are you sponsored? Yes, I have been supported by Jeff at Circle One for a number of years. They've been really good to me, and I would like to take this opportunity to say I really appreciate what they have done for me – good kit, and good friends. Jake at JB Shapes has also shaped me a couple of boards, local shaper, rider, and mate, cheers dude.
What do you think about competitive surfing? I enjoy meeting with all the guys I have surfed against for about seven years, and look to them to raise my game. Comps are good fun – sorry soul surfers.
Competition results? Recent result was a third in the U16s British Schools.
