Min-Jin Kym, sister of pianist Min-Jung Kym who appeared at the Queen's with the Philharmonia last November, began playing the violin at the age of six and a year later became the youngest ever student at the prestigious Purcell School.
She made her London debut in 1995 and her debut with the Philharmonia in 1999 under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy. She is sure to shine in this performance of Bruch's joyous and vivacious Violin Concerto No. 1 with its lyrical slow movement and fiery Gipsy-style rondo finale.
Ian Brown's career embraces conducting, solo playing as a pianist and chamber music. He has performed in duos with Min-Jin Kym and has conducted orchestras including the London Mozart Players, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta, the Northern Sinfonia and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
In this concert he will conduct Rossini's Overture Italian Girl in Algiers, and Beethoven's Eroica Symphony, a work which heralded the end of the classical symphonic form with its dramatic and innovative ideas. Although not well received at its first performance, the Eroica has since become one of the mainstays of the orchestral repertoire.
Tickets: £24 and £22.50 with concessions available. Under 16s: £5.
