Forecasters are predicting further persistent rain across the county which is expected to cause further localised flooding on already saturated ground.

Traffic chaos and disruption is also expected to worsen across the region.

A weather warning has also been issued for Monday meaning North Devon can expect at least three more days of severely wet and windy weather.

Saturday’s amber-graded weather warning is in place from 10am until midnight, with a down-graded ‘yellow’ weather warning then in place for the whole of Sunday and Monday.

A chief forecaster at the Met Office said an area of low pressure expected to move across the county on Monday could cause “significant disruption”.

He said: “An area of low pressure and associated frontal system are expected to bring periods of heavy rain and showers to parts of the South West during Monday.

“It seems likely that around 15-25mm of rain will fall quite widely with some locations possibly having an excess of 50mm. Given the saturated ground there is potential for the rainfall to cause significant disruption in some areas.”

North Devon is enjoying brief respite today with sunshine replacing the high winds and heavy rain which has caused chaos across the county over the last 72 hours.
