It's the end of the road for some signs
UNNECESSARY signs around Ilfracombe's harbour area will be removed in a de-cluttering exercise to help make the town look tidier.
There was concern that new visitors arriving on the ferry could spend their visits being confused by the excess signs. So some of the most pointless road signs will go.

SIGN OFF: One of the offending signs in Ropery Road, Ilfracombe.
A joint team of traders, tourism providers, local councils and the JDT worked with Devon County Council to earmark the worst offenders.
They included a sign on the corner of one-way Ropery Road, opposite the bus station, pointing to harbour parking in the opposite direction.
Sally Nelson from the JDT said: "Motorists coming from Broad Street wouldn't see this, so there was no point it being there."
Another warns of "Building Overhang" in Fore Street — just ahead of the now demolished Montebello site.
Sally said that following consultation, Devon County Council would complete the de-cluttering exercise by the end of this month. Some older style signs would also be replaced.

“Good, great news. De cluttering streets is a good thing. Hopefully by 'removing older style signs' they don't mean the blue tiles ones and historic originals on walls, that would be an act of vandalism and sheer stupidity.”
