SHE might be music's equivalent to Marmite. But love her or hate her, the alleged attempted attack on Joss Stone has landed her in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Exhibiting a wanton eagerness to keep it that way, Joss is now embarking on a new musical venture – with Mick Jagger. Yes, jam your eyes back in, haul your jaw off the floor, Jagger has skipped from Stones to Stone and has assembled a "cross-cultural supergroup".
The line-up is completed by Slumdog Millionaire composer AR Rahman, Eurhythmics man Dave Stewart and reggae singer Damian Marley, Bob's youngest son. They are called SuperHeavy.
At present I'm struggling to decide which is worse, the ridiculous band name or the fear that one of my rock'n'roll heroes might sully his career with the Devon soul starlet.

Fear or otherwise, it's important to reserve judgement until some material surfaces. They might turn out to be amazing. But in my heart it feels wrong. And that's never good.
You can pass premature judgement and get a taster for yourself with their well-shot introductory video over at www.bit.ly/jL6YL2 The first single is due in September.
In other news: Jackdaws, they're a young local band who I've been quick to hurl superlatives at recently. They've been flying through the musical underground with their dark and brazen noise pop. And now there's proof.
They've just won the Teenage Rampage competition in Exeter, an event which aims to find the South West's best young musical talent and give them the kind of professional mentoring, advice and networking opportunities that will help them on their quest for musical notoriety. Big congratulations.
You can hear them here: www.jackdaws1.bandcamp .com They're touring with The Dead Betas in September.
Finally, don't forget to go and watch Flee Mt. Fuji (myspace.com/fleemtfuji) and The Archives at Braunton Parish Hall on Saturday, July 9.
What's the deal with Marmite anyway? It tastes like something's gone wrong in the pot. Was it made by mistake?
