Baddick sets 800m personal best

NORTH DEVON athlete Frank Baddick continued his excellent form with a new personal best in the 800m.

Baddick, who runs for Newham and Essex Beagles, won the C race in the British Milers' Club Grand Prix meeting at Solihull in 1-50.71.

The Loughborough University student recently set a 1,500m personal best of 3-42.80 at a BMC meeting in Manchester.

Fellow North Devon AC competitor Michael Cole was also in action at Solihull, finishing seventh in the 800m B race in 1-52.71.

● John Shapland claimed silver in the Vet55 age group at the British Masters 10k Road Championships, held at Magor Marsh near Chepstow.

The North Devon Road Runner clocked a season's best 35-36 to finish 16th overall, just 12 seconds behind national age-group champion Dave Cox of Woodford Green.

Fellow Vet55, Torrington AC's Ian Snow, completed the course in 41-03 to finish 90th overall.

● North Devon AC are top of the table following the third Devon Open track and field meeting of the season.

In the under-10 age group, Jenny Johnson won the turbo javelin and long jump and finished second in the 600m and 75m.

The final meeting of the season is at Brickfields in Plymouth on August 16.
