Thursday, November 05, 2009, 07:00

BARNSTAPLE Under-15s swept aside Tavistock with an 11-try demolition job.

There was a four-try bonanza from left-wing Charlie Bishop in the 65-0 rout.

Hard-working Michael Peek had a much-deserved three-try haul, Ben Vellacott scored two and the singles came from captain Scott Warren and wing Sam Roach.

After a bad start to the season, Barnstaple Under-14s gained a well-deserved 17-7 win at Tavistock.

The hosts went 7-0 up in the first two minutes but Barum replied fiercely with some hard tackles and tries by Jacob Nash, George Conway and Joe Dimelow, one converted by Liam Ellis. George Conway was named man of the match by his team-mates.

Barnstaple Under-13s returned to form with a 78-0 victory over Tavistock. Their forwards were far too strong for the smaller Tavy pack.

Barum's try-scorers were Kipper Sluman, Nick Harris, Nat Bayet, Brad Campbell, Zac Davie, Jo Barnes, Nathan Squire, Steven Trawin and Robbie Hume who also kicked six conversions, with Barney Meadowcroft adding two.

On Saturday Barum's under-12s played Old Patesians before cheering on the first team. The visitors were unable to capitalise on playing downhill in the first half and ended up losing 19-0.

The next day Barum put on a barnstorming second-half performance at Wellington.

After turning round two tries to one down, aggressive and determined forward play set up a 20-15 win. Rob Squires (two), Cameron Eckford and Will Knill got the tries.

Barnstaple Under-11s played their best rugby of the season at Wellington, raising their game after conceding two early tries to win five tries to four.

The squad have been working hard on rucking and mauling and this showed as they won the majority of possession at the breakdown. Nathan Fouche, Joel Anderson, Aaron Vella, Danny Southworth, and Jono Slee scored the tries, with Fouche and Slee named joint men of the match.

The Under-10s also hit top form, winning games against Wellington four tries to one and 7-1. The scorers were Charlie Hannan (two), Max Davies (two), Jake Hawkins (two) and Harry Wilson Palmer (five).

Barnstaple Under-Nines won 6-1 and 4-1 against Wellington. Dylan Gosling, Miles Rees, Max Mepstead, Johnny Bond and Tyler Olding (two) scored in the first game. In the second, it was Bond, Sam Bithell and Olding (two).

Playing away for the first time this season, Barnstaple Under-Sevens had a 7-6 win at Wellington.

Ellis Rees scored a hat-trick and there were other tries from Caitlin Turner, captain Christopher Loat, Oliver Kelly and Zac Wheaton. Fantastic defence from Daniel Trapner and Tom Turner kept Barum ahead at the end.

● A very strong Newton Abbot Under-11s side won 49-7 at Bideford.

The Biddy try was scored by Jimbob Whittaker, converted by Tom Squire.
