Densham clinches victory for Bideford

Thursday, August 28, 2008, 09:15

A JAMIE DENSHAM goal was enough to give Bideford a workmanlike win at Sherborne last night.

On his first start since suffering an ankle injury on the opening day of the Toolstation League Premier Division season, Densham did not take long to make his mark.

He drilled home a right-foot shot from eight yards to give the Robins the lead inside the first seven minutes.

After Saturday's disappointing 2-2 draw with Bishop Sutton, Darren Hawkings, Reece Moseley and Ellis Laight all dropped to the bench, while Rob Francis, Nick Barker and Densham came into the starting line-up.

Premier Division new boys Sherborne proved organised and awkward opponents and it wasn't until the closing stages that Bideford had chances to kill the game off.

Densham fired a left-foot shot straight at the keeper, while sub Laight saw an effort strike the post.

The 1-0 win lifts Bideford to fifth place in the table. They visit Street in the FA Cup first preliminary round on Saturday.

Bideford: Kenny Griffiths, Ben Woods, Nick Barker, Neil Bettiss, Rob Francis, Tom Stocco, Clay Bond, Ian Down, Robbie Gough, Jamie Densham, Shaun Lewis. Subs: Ellis Laight, Darren Hawkings, Reece Moseley.
