The Sapphires are Carol Anne's second team, but have been threatening to break into the league's top two for the past couple of years after pushing first team Diamonds and Apollo all the way.
But this week they finally succeeded, silencing the Titans side 27-25.
Lou Moir defended brilliantly for Apollo but could not prevent her team going down against a Sapphires side inspired by Jodie Webb, who was back from university.
During this close and important match, Venners' Lucy Holland took her umpiring test and passed having done a super job.
In Division 2, Stars A and Stars B had good victories keeping them at the top of the table, and Langtree Re-Unites Rebels came through a tough battle to win their club derby against Rogues 36-28.
Meanwhile, many of North Devon's young players entered the National Junior Clubs tournament at Brean Sands at the weekend.
Many girls had to move up an age group owing to illness and last-minute holidays, and they rose to the challenge.
Beccy Straker was the star leading the Edgehill College U14 team and also playing for the U15s.
Rose Gaskell shot extremely well throughout and was backed up by great defence from Leanna Fay and Louise Way.
Kathryn Parkyn found herself shooting for one match and managed to score the 'most outrageous goal' of the weekend.
In the absence of the North Devon U16 and Edgehill coach Katrina Venner, her sister Adele and Alyssia Hayler umpired for the four teams throughout the weekend and Kat Timms and Lorayne Southam managed them and provided medical back-up.
