JAZZ GUITAR: David Jones
Saturday, October 22,
STUNNING young jazz guitarist, David Jones, will be doing what he loves best on his 18th birthday. The amazing talent joins gypsy jazz outfit, Shine, to showcase his skills on his beloved six string.
"I am thrilled that Shine have invited David to play with them at The George as he has astounded our regular acoustic audiences and many visiting musicians with his sensitive guitar playing," said George owner Cathy Doel. "He won't look out of place among these experienced professional musicians but don't just believe me, come along and see for yourself in what promises to be a brilliant night of passionate gypsy jazz."
David, who went to South Molton Community College and is now studying guitar at the Exeter Academy of Music and Sound, is passionate about performing. As well as being an accomplished jazz guitarist and pianist he also plays a mean rock lead guitar and recently played at the O2 in Bristol in front of 1,000 people with band Rough Cut. He can often be seen showing off his dexterous craft, gigging with new swing jazz band, Swing Twenty Ten.
On Saturday David joins Keith Chetwin (rhythm guitar/vocals), Ian Turner (bass), Clive Radford (guitar) and Simon Swarbrick (fiddle). Expect driving jazz rhythms and passionate vocals from the popular gypsy jazz guitar outfit.
"Shine have a big following on the jazz festival circuit in the UK and Holland and are firm favourites in North Devon over many years, delighting their audiences and always leaving them wanting more," added Cathy. "A lady telephoned me last night and was seriously considering coming all the way down from Ayre in Scotland having seen them perform there a few years ago."
Tickets: £7.50 (concert only), £15 (includes a hot buffet, with a choice of hot, spicy dishes to reflect the hot jazz theme of the evening). Bookings: www.wegottickets. com or phone 01769 572514.
