Top tourism award for Doomsday farmhouse
A NORTH DEVON farmhouse, mentioned in the Doomsday book, has just won a prestigious tourism award.
Yarde Farm, situated just outside Mortehoe, has been named South West Cottage of the Year by MyCottageHoliday, the independent holiday cottage review website.
It beat more than 1,100 other holiday properties to become regional winner in the 2010 Excellence Awards.
Andy Brown, editor of MyCottageHoliday, said: "The finalists for each region and category were selected by the editorial judging panel based purely on the reviews left by guests on the website.
"The very best cottage holidays all offer something extra.
"Sometimes it's just little touches that make the difference for a holidaymaker.
"Consistency, commitment and attention to detail is what makes the winners stand out."
Yarde Farm was completely renovated in 2008 and now offers modern quality holiday accommodation coupled with original character details in a picturesque setting.
Kate Stone of Yarde Farm said: "We are really proud to win this award and the fact that it is based on guests' reviews makes it even more special.
"The South West region is without doubt the most competitive region in the country, so we are delighted to be recognised in this way."
